Who is Filippos Lamprakis?
Filippos Lamprakis is a musician and producer from Heraklion, Crete, who blends Cretan folk elements, oriental colours and modern electronic production into ambient and downtempo soundscapes. His work focuses on keeping Cretan music alive by reimagining it for today’s listeners.​

Cretan roots and early years
Born and raised in Crete, Filippos grew up surrounded by island rhythms, municipal bands and local performances. Traditional instruments like the Cretan lute and lyra shaped his musical ear long before he turned to synthesizers and studio work.​

From folk stages to electronic sound
He started performing on school stages and in small venues around Heraklion, exploring folk repertoire and acoustic arrangements. Over time, he moved towards ambient and synth‑based music, keeping Cretan scales and phrasing at the core while experimenting with loops, effects and downtempo beats.​

Blending East and West
Filippos draws inspiration from the broader Eastern Mediterranean – Anatolian modes, oriental melodies and Mediterranean harmonies – and combines them with modern production. The result is a sound where lute and lyra can sit next to modular synths, pads and subtle electronic drums.

Today’s projects
Today, under the Alcaeus project, he composes and performs music that connects tradition and innovation: ambient landscapes, ethnic fusion and live looping sets rooted in Cretan identity. He collaborates with local musicians, records in his Heraklion studio and shares his work through digital releases, workshops and live performances in Crete and beyond.​
